July 23, 1998, Los Angeles
At 6:00 A.M. Pacific Time, Federal Agents arrested Los Angeles author, AIDS and Cancer
patient Peter McWilliams in his Laurel Canyon home located at 8148 Mannix Drive.
ARRAIGNMENT: 2 PM, Thursday, July 23, 1998
When questioned, Federal authorities would only comment that McWilliams had been
arrested in connection with the July 29, 1997 arrest of pot-activist Todd McCormick
who was arrested in a rented Bel-Air home filled with more than 4,000 pot plants
which McCormick was cultivating to treat his cancer and to contribute research to
an upcoming book with Peter McWilliams.
McWilliams--an outspoken advocate of medical marijuana and Proposition 215-- suffers
from AIDS and Cancer and uses medical marijuana to ease the nausea caused by the
“cocktail” of drugs he must take to sustain his life.
McWilliams is the author and publisher of more than 35 books which have sold more
than ten million copies. His books have appeared five times on the New York Times
best-seller list. McWilliams celebrated 30 years as a self-publisher in June. His
books include How to Survive the Loss of a Love, How to Heal Depression, Hypericum
& Depression, and Ain’t Nobody’s Business If You Do—The Absurdity of Consensual Crimes
in Our Free Country (a book openly critical of the drug war).
